After being drafted in the 1st round by the Major League Lacrosse Champion Philadelphia Barrage in 2007, Nolan Godfrey also made MLL stops with the Denver Outlaws, Ohio Machine, and Boston Cannons. He played defense and transition in the Canadian Lacrosse Association provinces, of British Columbia, Ontario, and Quebec, establishing himself as one of the finest box drawmen in the CLA. Godfrey's box lacrosse career has been highlighted by playing at the Senior-A level with the Nanaimo Timbermen of the Western Lacrosse Association as well as with Team USA Indoor at the 2008 Warrior Cup in Six Nations, Ontario. He led the NCAA in ground balls in 2006 and was second nationally in faceoff winning percentage en route to All-American, First Team All-Conference, and 2x All-New England honors.
His playing career set the tone for a successful coaching career that has spanned worldwide. Godfrey has been instrumental in the expansion of European lacrosse in several nations and has run National Team training camps for Switzerland, Scotland, and Spain. He has also expanded opportunities for players all over the United States helping over 1,000 advance to the college level. Included in that total are 203 HS All-Americans, 48 College All-Americans, and 12 players advancing all the way to Major League Lacrosse.
Coach Godfrey is currently a Firefighter in Northern California in addition to his coaching trade. Godfrey most recently was on the coaching staff of perennial MCLA Division 1 powerhouse UC-Santa Barbara and helped lead them to the 2016 National Tournament. He has coached at the HS level in Massachusetts (D1 State Finalist) and Texas, as well as at the collegiate level with UMass (NCAA D1), Saint Anselm College (NCAA D2), and MCLA D1 National Champion Grand Canyon University.
